George Read Signer of the Declaration of Independence

George Read Signed three of our nations founding documentsGeorge Read was a Signer of the Declaration of Independence, a Lawyer, Politician, and delegate to the Continental Congress from the State of Delaware.

He also signed the Constitutional Association, (the document created by the Stamp Act Congress), and the US Constitution, one the few who signed multiple “Founding” documents.

George Read Voted No!

George Read voted NO on the vote for “Independence” on June 2, 1776, but changed his mind and signed the document, I believe on August 2, 1776

NOTE:  Being one of the first sites I visited,  my picture and video are pretty lame.  I will revisit George Reads Memorial when I head back up north.  Until then please enjoy the videos and pictures I did take.

George Read is buried, in the beautifully maintained Immanuel Episcopal Church, in New Castle Delaware.

New Castle is a quaint little historic town with lots of history.  It is worth a drive off of I-95.

If you are in the area.If you do decide to visit New Castle or signer George Read’s  burial site, please stop by and pay your respects.

Never let their memories fade.

You will hear the church bells in the background.  There were actual people ringing them just like you see in the movies.  The “bell ringers” were very kind and helped me find the location of George Read’s burial site.  I just love the bells in the background.
